Sniper : Edison Chen comeback kid

I can see much clearer with the lens !

1 sniper takes down a whole police squad. Impossible ?

Definitely. All you need is a sniper rifle and a shooting range of >400m.

Edison Chen is a hero in this movie being the sole survivor at the end of the showdown.

Arshavin nets 4 to hold Liverpool to a draw

Andrei Arshavin quadruple all but ends Liverpool's title dreams

Just as it appeared an Iron Curtain had fallen on Liverpool’s title bid, as Russia’s Andrei Arshavin scored four and Poland’s Lukasz Fabianski made save after save, Yossi Benayoun rescued a point for Rafa Benitez’s men. This was astonishing fare, utterly in keeping with a sensational season.

Since she has a bad impression of Sunny, she is always arguing with him and trying to get him fired. When it comes to business she is very strict but she always has a soft side.

My Views

I find this show pretty interesting new concept to make insurance line look less intimidating with the new product "love insurance". I'm sure we are all familiar with pushy insurance agents who will go all out to sell their policies to you.

Agents can be irritating but insurance is really something which will protect us in any unfortunate events.

At the end of each episode Sunny also gives some tips and advice on insurance which is quite useful.

Be careful who you meet on facebook

Facebook face-off

IT SOUNDED harmless enough - a drink with a group of new friends.

But soon after, the gathering turned sour, and Mr Ong Jian Zhao, 21, found himself left alone at a bar, with a $213 bill to settle on behalf of people he hardly knew.

Mr Ong, a civil servant, got to know Miss Chloe Yoong, 21 - one of the members of the group - through social networking site Facebook last month.

He said: 'I was randomly browsing through profiles and I decided to send her a message.'
After several messages over the course of a few days, they exchanged handphone numbers.

He then asked her out several times, but each time, she declined saying she was busy.

But on the evening on 28 Feb, Mr Ong received an SMS from her inviting him for a drink at Raffles Hotel's Long Bar with her, her boyfriend and three other friends.

Said Mr Ong: 'I was reluctant at first, but she told me to join them anyway and not to be a wet blanket.'

He recalled that when he arrived, there were already several drinks on the table - two cocktails, a glass of bourbon and a bottle of red wine.

He then chatted with the group for a while.

But after about 20 minutes, Miss Yoong and one friend left, claiming they were going to the toilet.

Shortly after, while Mr Ong was away taking a phone call, two others left.

When he returned to the table, only Miss Yoong's boyfriend remained.

But he, too, left immediately, saying he had to take a call.

Mr Ong claimed he waited for about 30 minutes for the group to return but nobody showed up.
When he SMSed Miss Yoong, she claimed to have left with a friend who was not feeling well.
He then paid the $213 bill for the drinks and left.

He told The New Paper he believed the evening was planned by the group of friends to get him into paying for the drinks.

He said he had repeatedly tried to ask Miss Yoong for his money back after the session but she had been uncontactable. He even contacted the National Institute of Education, where Miss Yoong is studying, hoping to get hold of her.

However, he was told to settle the matter on his own.

When contacted, both Miss Yoong and her boyfriend, Mr Alex Lim, 25, confirmed the incident.
Mr Lim said they had decided to leave Mr Ong to settle the bill because he had implied that he wanted to pay for the drinks.

He said: 'When he came over, he kept bragging about how well he was doing and how well-off he was.

'It is ridiculous that he is asking us for the money back.'
Miss Yoong added that in their exchanges on Facebook, Mr Ong said he had planned to treat her to a drinking or clubbing session.

Did not expect her friends

Mr Ong did not dispute this, but said he had only planned to take Miss Yoong out, but not her friends.

Said Miss Yoong: 'When he first sent me a message, he said he didn't have a stable relationship with his girlfriend.

'He asked me out to go clubbing or for drinks, and said he wanted to treat me.'
She added that she began to get annoyed by Mr Ong's persistent requests and decided to 'get him off her back' once and for all.

'It happened that my boyfriend was around (on the night of the incident) so we asked him to join us.'

Immediately after he paid the bill, Mr Ong reported the incident to the police but was advised to settle the matter privately with her.

However, he claimed he has been unable to contact her since.
The New Paper contacted Miss Yoong at the number provided by Mr Ong without any problem.

By Liew Hanqing

He said calls and SMSes to her handphone went unanswered, and she later deleted him from her contact list on Facebook as well.
What he hopes for is an apology and his money back.

When asked if they would accede to Mr Ong's request, Mr Lim said: 'Are you kidding?'

He added: 'It would be a different matter if he had been polite and nice.
'But after all that bragging, it was really difficult to be cordial to him.'

Sim Lim Square shopping tips

1. Do your research: Before you bargain for an item, make sure you know its market price. You are less likely to be ripped off if you know what the recommended retail price is.

2. Goods and Services Tax (GST) scams: Not all shops have to charge GST, only those with revenues of more than $1 million a year.

If you are not sure, ask to check the GST registration number. Also, ask if the quoted price includes GST or not. Some retailers sock it to you only at payment.

3. Check the warranty: Insist on the manufacturer's warranty and the official receipt. You will need this if you want repairs done during the warranty period.

4. Check your items: Shop owners may sometimes remove items that originally come as a bundle, so they can offer it at a lower price. When you commit to a deal, be sure to check the items that you have paid for.

5. Insist on testing the product: Because of some shops' no-refund policy, you should insist on testing the product before taking it home. Ask about the exchange policy as well.

6. Check the price: Ask for a detailed breakdown of what you are paying for.

7. Ask for freebies: If haggling fails, ask for free gifts instead. For example, when buying a hard disk or laptop, you could ask for a free cover in lieu of a discount.

8. Shop around: Browse and collect brochures before settling on a shop. Do your own comparisons to find the best bargains. Don't be shy! With so many shops offering the same products, you can take your time to make a choice.

9. Don't be intimidated by jargon: If you can't tell your SD from SSD, get help. Those who don't know what they are buying are more likely to feel cheated after making the purchase.

10. Shop at STARetailers: This programme by Sim Lim Square Traders' Association ensures that shops keep to a certain standard of quality and service. STARetailers are indicated on posters and signs in the mall.

11. Go on week days: The mall is less crowded so you have more time and space to explore your options.

12. Know your way around: The first and second floors offer mostly consumer electronics such as digital cameras and plasma television sets. The third to sixth stories are dedicated to IT products such as software, computers and games.

13. Beware of imitations: Some products are imitations although most salespeople will tell you if a product is genuine or not.

14. Second-hand items: If something is too cheap to be true, it probably isn't true. Ask the sales staff if it is a secondhand or display item, which is often marked down.

15. Be a serious shopper: Shopkeepers say some customers bargain for the fun of it. Be sincere when you negotiate prices. Sales staff will be more inclined to quote you a better price if they know you are a serious buyer.

Compiled by Amanda Tan based on advice from Sim Lim Square regulars, shop owners and online forums.

She offered nude pictures for virtual pet gifts

By Liew Hanqing

IT SEEMS she is willing to exchange real-life nude pictures of herself for something that exists only in cyberspace - items for her online pet.

Is that all her modesty is worth?

The question doesn't seem to bother the Facebook user, who introduces herself as Ling Er, an 18-year-old Singaporean.

Her offer has drawn some flak, even from other netizens who are blase about such shenanigans.
As one of them put it, she may have taken games addiction and online barter to a new low.

The teenager set up a Facebook group last month to get netizens to give her virtual items for her character in the popular game Pet Society on the networking site.

Birthday suit
The name of her group: My birthday suit contest.
To date, some 133 users have signed up as members of the group.

The game, which can be played by Facebook members who download it, allows them to create and play with a virtual pet, buy it items, and pit its 'skills' against those of others.

The object of the game is to acquire as many points as possible.
These points allow players to acquire more virtual items for their pets' homes.

On her Facebook group, Ling Er has appealed to netizens to give her their most valuable Pet Society gifts possible.
She claimed that senders of the best five gifts would get a set of nude pictures of her in return.

They have to do so by 1May.
She has even listed those who have sent the most valuable gifts so far.
The teen wrote on the site: 'I will send you guys pics of me in my birthday suit that I was born with.'

Er, does she mean baby pics, perhaps? Who knows.
But since the group was set up, it has attracted more than 100 members, almost all of them men.

In an e-mail reply to The New Paper, Ling Er said she started playing Pet Society just over two weeks ago, and that she plays the game daily, but for less than an hour each time.
She declined to reveal her real name.

The teen said she had started the Facebook group 'just for fun'.
'Also, I like the thrill and I want more gifts (for my pet),' she added.
Asked if she sensed any danger in sending her nude pictures to total strangers, she replied: 'In this day and age, it is easier to find pictures of this nature online than news updates from around the world.'

And will they really be her own pictures? Well, all we know is that she has already put up some that are supposed to be preview pictures.

She claimed that other local women had taken and distributed nude pictures of themselves online with little consequence.
'They're still doing fine,' she insisted.

However, keeping or distributing obscene pictures is against the law.
Ling Er said she has received virtual gifts from more than 10 people in her group.
These include a virtual lamp, guitar and bath tub.

A member of the Facebook group, who declined to be named, said he had joined the group 'for fun'.

He said he had come across the link to the group from a friend's Facebook profile and decided to join on a whim.

'The name of the group sounded interesting, so I decided to have a look. I don't even play the game,' he said.

He added that he found it odd that anyone would offer nude pictures to strangers for virtual items.

'If the items were real, it would be understandable,' he said.
Student Kevin Chua, 16, who is an avid Pet Society player, added he was surprised when a friend told him about the group that had been set up.

He said: 'It's not something you see every day. I just hope she doesn't get into trouble doing this.'
He added that he knew of people who traded virtual items on Pet Society forums and groups on Facebook, but had never seen somebody offering such a deal before.

'It's quite shocking to see what people would do just to get items for an online game.'
Psychiatrists and counsellors that The New Paper spoke to raised their doubts as to whether the promise would be kept.

Gimmick
Said Mr Charles Lee, senior counsellor at Tanjong Pagar Family Service Centre: 'I think she is using sex as the attraction. We don't know if she will give the photos, it could just be a good gimmick.'

However, Mr Lee and Dr Brian Yeo, a consultant psychiatrist at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, said that the act only served to reflect her lack of modesty.
Said Mr Lee: 'Assuming that she really sends nude photos, it just shows her low self-esteem. How she does not care about her privacy? It shows that her relationship with this pet is ranked above her own privacy.'

Parents we spoke with also expressed their concern.
Mrs Magdalene Wong, 53, a mother of two, felt that it was worrying such things could be happening on the social networking site.
She said: 'It's quite shocking to know that it's being used in such a competitive way. Other people who see it might decide to do something that may be even worse.'

Facebook, YouTube at work make better employees: study

Watching videos at work ? it may not be such a bad thing after all.

MELBOURNE - Caught Twittering or on Facebook at work? It'll make you a better employee, according to an Australian study that shows surfing the Internet for fun during office hours increases productivity.

The University of Melbourne study showed that people who use the Internet for personal reasons at work are about 9 percent more productive that those who do not.

Study author Brent Coker, from the department of management and marketing, said "workplace Internet leisure browsing," or WILB, helped to sharpened workers' concentration.

"People need to zone out for a bit to get back their concentration," Coker said on the university's website

"Short and unobtrusive breaks, such as a quick surf of the Internet, enables the mind to rest itself, leading to a higher total net concentration for a days' work, and as a result, increased productivity," he said.

According to the study of 300 workers, 70 percent of people who use the Internet at work engage in WILB.

Among the most popular WILB activities are searching for information about products, reading online news sites, playing online games and watching videos on YouTube.

"Firms spend millions on software to block their employees from watching videos, using social networking sites or shopping online under the pretence that it costs millions in lost productivity," said Coker. "That's not always the case."

However, Coker said the study looked at people who browsed in moderation, or were on the Internet for less than 20 percent of their total time in the office.

"Those who behave with Internet addiction tendencies will have a lower productivity than those without," he said.
